This policy explains what information ScrollFocus ("the app," "we," "us") collects, why, and how it's handled. ScrollFocus is built to help you limit short-form video feeds like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok's feed. We've kept data collection deliberately minimal: most of what the app does happens entirely on your device.
1. Information we collect
ScrollFocus collects only what's needed to run its core features: blocking short-form feeds, tracking your usage against the limits you set, and processing subscription payments.
On-device usage data
To detect when you're viewing a short-form feed and to show you your own usage statistics, ScrollFocus reads screen content locally using Android's Accessibility Service, and reads app usage timing via Android's UsageStatsManager. This processing happens entirely on your device. We do not transmit, store, or have access to the content of what you view.
App analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymized usage patterns — for example, how many people open the app, which screens are used, and general session counts. This data is not tied to your name or contact details and is not used to identify you individually.
Feedback you submit
If you rate the app or submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, we store your rating and any comments you write in our Firestore database, along with the timestamp. This is only submitted when you choose to send it.
Subscription and purchase status
See Payments and financial information below.
2. Payments and financial information
ScrollFocus offers optional paid subscriptions and a lifetime purchase, processed entirely through Google Play Billing.
We do not collect, see, process, or store your payment card details, bank information, or any other financial account information. All payment details are entered directly into Google's secure payment system and are governed by Google's own privacy and payment terms.
The only information ScrollFocus receives back from Google Play Billing is limited to your subscription or purchase status — for example, which plan you're on (monthly, yearly, or lifetime), whether a trial or subscription is active, and a purchase token used to verify entitlement. This status information is used solely to unlock the features you've paid for.
3. How we use information
- To operate core features: applying your limits, detecting short-form feeds, and showing your usage stats — all on-device.
- To unlock paid features once Google Play Billing confirms an active purchase or subscription.
- To understand aggregate app usage and improve ScrollFocus, using anonymized Firebase Analytics data.
- To review feedback and ratings you voluntarily submit, so we can fix bugs and prioritize improvements.
- To respond if you contact us directly for support.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. Third-party services
ScrollFocus relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Play Billing | Processes subscription and one-time purchases; handles all payment/card data |
| Firebase Analytics | Anonymized, aggregate app usage statistics |
| Firebase Firestore | Stores optional user-submitted feedback and ratings |
| Google Play Services | Standard Android platform services required to run the app |
5. Data storage and retention
Usage detection and limit enforcement happen locally on your device and are never uploaded. Feedback you submit is retained in Firestore until you request deletion or until it's no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for. Analytics data is retained according to Firebase Analytics' standard retention settings.
6. Your choices
- Revoke Accessibility access anytime in your device settings (this disables blocking features).
- Uninstall the app to remove all on-device data immediately.
- Request deletion of any feedback you've submitted by emailing us at the address below.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions directly through Google Play's subscription settings.
7. Children's privacy
ScrollFocus is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we'll remove it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ScrollFocus after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
